How does my student get selected for Reading Strategies?
What is Title I?
- Title 1 is part of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) of 1965, Reauthorized by the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001
- Title 1 is the nation’s largest federal assistance program for schools
- The Title 1 program is designed to provide students with extra help in an effort meet challenging state academic standards
What the Reading Strategies class looks like:
- Students receive small group instruction and/or one-to-one instruction which is determined by the needs of each student
- Students read books at their level
- Reading Strategies does NOT take the place of the classroom teacher’s instruction. Students receive extra support to supplement not replace classroom reading instruction
- Reading Strategies/Title I is NOT the same as special education
Student Selection Criteria:
How does my student get selected for Reading Strategies?
- Students are chosen based on running record data, MAP scores, DRA data, and teacher recommendation
- Students are then ranked within their grade level to determine greatest need
